Chorale Cues

From Anne

It’s hard to believe that our fall semester is almost over, with our concerts just around the corner.  This glorious concert will be dedicated to the memory of Don Andersen, who sang with us for the last few years, and whose gentle presence we miss very much.  To honor Don, we just need to pack those two churches on the first weekend in December.  We’ve learned our music, so the hard work is done.  Now we just need to get out and sell those tickets!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

A Huge Thanks to Mike

As you all know, we had a very successful jewelry show on Saturday, October 21.  Many of us came out to support it, and it was fun, indeed.  Fund-raising is never easy and never fun, but thanks to Mike Tyler and Bob Huntington, this event was both.  Through Mike’s generosity, the Chorale received a donation of $1,063.  Thank you so much, Mike.

Concert Dress

Just a reminder to all that our upcoming holiday concerts will require black concert dress.  For new Chorale members, this means:

MEN: Black tuxedo or black suit with white shirt. Both should be worn with red bow tie, cummerbund, black socks, and black shoes.
WOMEN: Tailored, sophisticated long, black dress, one or two piece; no slacks. Dress should be opaque, not sheer, and have a modest neckline and long sleeves (no bare arms), banded, hemmed or cuffed but NOT lacy or flared. Wear with black dress shoes, flat or low to medium heels (no spikes or chunks), and black hosiery. Pearl necklace and earrings are fine, but for the sake of uniformity and to minimize distraction for the audience, and us please omit large, chunky, or noisy jewelry.  Please, no perfume or after-shave.  If anyone has any questions, please see Leslie Sylvanus.

Looking For A Stocking Stuffer?

CDs are still available of Mozart’s “Requiem” for the mere price of $5.00.  Why not dazzle the in-laws with our talent.  Please see Anne if you are interested.

Program Ad Sales Team

Wow!  Our program ad sales team, headed up by the “super sales lady”, Pam Timony, had a record year.  Thanks to their efforts, our income from the sale of ads was up 48% over last year, with 14 new sponsors.  Kudos go out to Pam, Tim Fisher, Kathy Draper, Jackie Oren, Bill Morgan, Michael DeGroot, Kathryn Marchi, Linda Schuerholz, Sherry Braband, Bonnie McGregor, and Pat Cappello.  When you receive your program, take note of our sponsors and patronize their businesses, thanking them for their support.  It is important for sponsors to realize that an ad placed with the Chorale is effective.

Tickets Sales

By now, each of you should have received four concert tickets to sell.  It shouldn’t be hard to do.  This is the time of year we are always looking for small gifts to give at holiday parties, so why not consider the gift of music.  All ticket monies should be given to Michael DeGroot, and any unsold tickets should be returned to him as well.  Of course, if you need extra tickets, please see Michael as well.  All ticket returns should be made by the date of our concert.

A Look To The Future

Bob has been hard at work, planning our 2007-2008 season.  It has been presented to the Board, and we are excited about what we have heard so far.  Christmas 2007 will offer “Double Your Pleasure”, a collaboration with the Central Maryland Chorale, directed by Monica Otal (one of our guest clinicians last year).  Each group will present their own seasonal repertoire, but we will open and close each half of the concert with eight-part double chorus, and/or antiphonal choir selections.  More about this later.

Spring 2008 will be our 20th anniversary, so we will offer a gala concert entitled “Made In The USA”.  This program will feature folk song arrangements and works by American composers.  We are hoping to line up a celebrity personality to serve as a guest narrator.

Happy Thanksgiving!
